Great Britain Jubilee Head 1889 Double Florin, Inverted 1, AU58 PCGS. KM-763, Spink-3923. A broken letter punch used on some 1888- and 1889-dated double florins made the second I in VICTORIA appear to be an inverted number 1, as here. These are far scarcer than the normal coins. Our Spink reference (several years old) prices an EF (a tad below AU58 in American grading) for the regular coin at GBP85 versus GBP275 for the Inverted 1. We could easily see this coin in an MS62 holder, as it shows no more than a trace of cabinet friction on the obverse at the upper collar and crown top. This coin also boasts lovely toning, as the Trueview makes abundantly evident. PCGS Population: 1 in 58, 1 finer (3/2021).
